The Marketplace for Nature is a program initiated by Defenders of Wildlife and managed by a
consortium of public and private organizations to establish integrated, ecologically effective, and
easily accessible markets for ecosystem services.
The initial focus will be on conservation/restoration sites in the Willamette Basin of Oregon and
Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. See here for further information on these projects.
Sales of ecosystem services from these sites will help demonstrate how a multi-credit marketplace
will work, and provide opportunities to test methodologies under development to quantify and
guarantee the ecological integrity of the projects.
Markit Environmental Registry is registry advisor to the Marketplace for Nature.
